年頭にあたって（新年のご挨拶）
新年おめでとうございます。年頭にあたり、ご挨拶を申し上げます。
2020年は新型コロナウイルス感染拡大で世界が一変した年でした。横浜市立大学でも教育、研究においてオンライン化をはじめとする様々な対策をとり、停滞を余儀なくされた海外交流もこれまでとは異なる方法で再開を図ってきました。一方、人格形成にとって重要な時期にある学生の直接的対人関係を維持するために、対面式授業や課外活動の再開も感染対策を徹底しながら進めてきました。また、附属2病院では新型コロナウイルス感染症の重症患者の治療と高度先進医療の維持の両立により、大学病院としての使命を果たしています。感染症の収束が見えない中で、我々は経験から多くを学びつつ、これからも教育、研究、診療に全力を尽くしていきます。

激動のpost/withコロナ社会にあって、横浜市立大学が目指すべき姿は「社会の変革をリードする大学」です。新たな社会が必要とする人材育成に力を注ぎ、本学がこれまで培ってきた研究領域をさらに発展させ、異分野融合により新たな課題を解決するための研究を遂行していくことが本学の使命です。それらを介して、SDGsに取り組み社会貢献を推進していきます。そのためにも、本年はさらに様々な改革を加速してまいりますので、皆様のご理解とご支援をよろしくお願い致します。
最後に、2021年が皆様および横浜市立大学にとって幸多き年となりますことを､心より祈念致します。

New Year Message from the President
First and foremost, I would like to wish a happy New Year to everyone!
The year 2020 was a year unlike any other due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yokohama City University took various measures to pursue educational activities, including remotely holding classes and conducting research. We also had to be creative in planning new ways to carry out international exchange. Meanwhile, we have been making focused efforts to prevent infection while working toward resuming in-person classes and extracurricular activities to preserve students’ direct interpersonal relations at this important time for character development. Moreover, our two affiliated hospitals are fulfilling their mission as university hospitals by achieving a balance between taking on the medical treatment of severe COVID-19 cases and maintaining their highly advanced medical care services. Although the end of the pandemic is not in sight, we have learned considerably from our experience thus far and we are determined to continue putting everything into our academic, research, and medical endeavors.
In a world undergoing dramatic transformation during and in the aftermath of COVID-19, Yokohama City University aims to be “a university at the forefront of societal change.” We are dedicated to training the human resources the new normal will require and to further develop the fields of study we have been cultivating. It is our mission to carry out research that will lead to solutions to evolving challenges through an interdisciplinary approach. Going forward, we will thus continue to engage with the SDGs and to promote social contribution. To this end, we kindly ask for your understanding and support as we accelerate various reforms this year.
In closing, I sincerely hope 2021 is a year filled with joy for everyone as well as for Yokohama City University.
