Aims

The primary goal of Practical English is to develop in the students enrolled in the program the practical skills necessary to function effectively in English in college level liberal arts classes at Yokohama City University.
All of the classes in the Practical English program are taught in English, and the students are taught to use English to learn English. All of the classes taught in the Practical English program engage the students actively in the whole process of learning.
Thus, the students use the four basic skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in all of the Practical English classes.
The ITP-TOEFL, a widely used test of academic English ability, is used to measure the effectiveness of the program.
Students are required to pass Practical English before they may become third year students.
