Graduate School of Medicine

The Graduate School of Medicine aims to contribute to the development of society by nurturing students into individuals who can make valuable contributions to both local and global society and through innovative research. To accomplish these goals, the school strives to develop more advanced academic knowledge and practical skills from a foundation of medical and scientific knowledge and technology.
Message from the Dean

At the Graduate School of Medicine, we actively research various medical and healthcare areas. These include basic medical research aimed at understanding disease mechanisms, clinical medical research focused on preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases, social medicine research exploring societal impacts on health, and nursing research dedicated to solving regional healthcare and welfare issues to support people's health. Moreover, our research activities are increasingly expanding globally through collaborations and information and personnel exchanges with domestic and international research institutions and researchers.
Our Graduate School is committed to scientifically exploring and promoting the "creation of knowledge," which is essential in addressing various challenges associated with realizing "well-being"—the pursuit of higher-quality health and happiness. We aim to contribute broadly and positively to society through these research endeavors.
The rapid advancement of modern science, technology, and information science, exemplified by recent progress in generative AI technology, has significantly impacted the fields of medicine and healthcare. Under such circumstances, it is crucial not merely to be passive recipients of information but to actively discover and create new medical insights through research and disseminating our original findings. Achieving these goals requires proficiency in data science literacy. In line with this, our Graduate School is actively promoting the "Yokohama Data Cycle" initiative as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology's program, "Program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS)," in close cooperation with other graduate schools. We provide comprehensive support to our students and researchers, enabling them to address healthcare challenges through data-driven approaches and to grow as future leaders who will advance medical practice.
Our Graduate School provides attentive and personalized support, ensuring students gain proficiency in research methods in basic medicine, clinical medicine, social medicine, and nursing. We guide students toward developing practical skills, adhering to high ethical standards, and becoming independent researchers.
