School of Medicine
YCU's School of Medicine is dedicated to the development of competent and compassionate medical professionals who understand the needs of local, national and global communities, and will advocate for their patients' health and well-being. Our students are also encouraged to pursue creative research in the fields of medicine, medical sciences and nursing in order to promote the prosperity of humanity by actively finding solutions to issues in health care. In order to accomplish these goals, the school strives to become one of Japan's leading medical schools, which serves as a center of learning that passes on knowledge and innovative technology concerning health care.
Message from the Dean
Medicine is a profession devoted to safeguarding human life and health, and it is built upon the trust of society. At Yokohama City University School of Medicine, we are committed to educating future physicians and medical scientists who possess not only outstanding clinical competence, but also compassion, integrity, and a broad perspective on the challenges facing modern healthcare.
Our educational program integrates basic medical sciences with clinical medicine while promoting advanced research activities. Through this integrated approach, students gain opportunities to learn medicine in real clinical settings, including our affiliated hospitals, and to engage with ongoing research. Exposure to both clinical practice and scientific inquiry encourages students to develop a research-minded attitude—one that seeks to challenge unresolved questions in medicine and generate new knowledge for the benefit of society.
Our mission is to cultivate physicians and medical researchers who combine professional excellence with deep humanity. We hope that our graduates will carry with them a strong sense of pride in having studied at Yokohama City University and will contribute to society with responsibility, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to advancing medicine.
