Yokohama City University’s 2016 Graduation Ceremony – featuring guest speaker Dr. Yoshiharu Sekino

This year, Yokohama City University’s graduation ceremony (平成27年度 横浜市立大学 卒業式) is held on Friday, March 25th, 2016. The main ceremony took place in the university’s Kanazawa Hakkei Campus gymnasium, and was attended by around 1000 students, and their family and friends. The ceremony was also attended by students from the Fukuura, Maioka and Tsurumi campuses. Also present were the Chairperson, Mr. Yoshiyuki Futami, the University President, Dr. Yoshinobu Kubota, the previous University President, Mr. Tsutomu Fuse, the Vice Presidents, and School Deans – to name a few.




The ceremony began at 10:00 a.m., after all the students and guests were seated. The procession was led by the President, while the members of the Yokohama City University Orchestra performed by the stage. After singing the university anthem, the members of the procession were introduced to the students and guests, and each gave their congratulations after their brief introductions. The introductions were followed immediately by the conferring of the Degrees to the highest achievers for each division in each academic school, starting with the International College of Arts and Sciences, followed by the School of Medicine, and subsequently YCU’s five graduate schools. The conferring of the Degrees was followed by the President’s speech, and then speeches were given by a YCU alumni, Ms. Marina Takahasi, followed by a speech from a student representative of the Class of 2016. After the speeches were given, there was an acapella performance. Finally, the guest speaker for this year’s graduation ceremony graced the stage, and shared his experiences during The Great Journey. The guest speaker, Dr. Yoshiharu Sekino, is an alum of YCU’s Medical School, Class of 1982.
