For the promotion of Translational Research (TR), it is essential to verify the findings from basic research using animal model or cell/tissue culture in human diseases. It is therefore important to provide a system that can supply a variety of human tissue specimens acquired in the course of surgery or clinical examination in sufficient quantities upon researchers requests.
To ensure a timely supply of human tissue specimens to researchers for the purpose of TR, the Biobank Division stores and manages tissue samples (e.g. excised tissue during surgery, or serum) and clinical information provided by patients at the University Hospital.
With the cooperation of medical departments in our hospital, clinical samples have been collected since April 2007, and at the end of March 2015, the Biobank stored 12,264 vials (2,769 types) of clinical specimens. Furthermore, having begun a blood bank service that collects blood samples in 2014, the Biobank currently stores 328 vials of serum from healthy volunteer, and we will move on to collect serum from patients as well.
