Message from the Chairman
Towards a University That Contributes to the Development of Society

The 2011 fiscal year began while we were in the midst of responding to the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11. Happily, we were able to confirm the safety of every member of our student body. While creating an environment where every student can continue his or her studies without interruption, the university is doing what it can to aid those in the area affected by the earthquake.
It has now been seven years since YCU's incorporation in 2005 as a public university corporation. This year marks the first year of the universityfs second medium-term plan. Even while continuing to steadily pursue the issues carried over from the first medium-term plan, we are busy preparing for the prioritized execution of the major pillars of the second medium-term plan. These pillars are the (1) reorganization of courses offered in the International College of Arts and Sciences, (2) further development of the medicine and life science field with the cooperation of the medical department and science department, (3) expansion of the Advanced Medical Research Center, and (4) renewal and maintenance of medical equipment used in the university's two hospitals.
The mission of this university is to serve as a base in Yokohama for educational research and medicine through its role as a key infrastructure of this international city's knowledge-based urban society. Our aim is to contribute to the development of society and become a university that Yokohama's citizens can be proud to call their own. By accomplishing these goals, we believe our university will succeed in the tough competition between universities and be selected by prospective students and their parents. We will strive to work even harder to contribute to the development of the local community and become an institution that the people of Yokohama will depend on and hold great expectations for.
