Yokohama City Univesity(YCU) has two hospitals, Yokohama City University Hospital, YCU Medical Center.

The Japan Council for Quality Health Care is a independent third-party body that impartially evaluates the functioning of medical institutions,such as hospitals, from an academic perspective, and also assists in solving any problems that come to light during this evaluation. Both Yokohama City University Hospital and the YCU Medical Center have received recognition from this institution for the considerable goodwill and trust that their medical treatment has built up the local community.

The first facility in Japan to have introduced "SMAP method" for lung cancer and pancreatic cancer
In place of traditional genetic tests that used to take from a half day to a few days until the test results became available, in cooperation with Riken and using a new gene mutation detection method (SMAP method) developed by Riken, this Hospital developed in February 2007 a test kit that can detect genes easily and with high sensitivity in such a short time as 30 minutes.
Ahead of all other facilities in Japan, this Hospital has fi rst introduced a test using this kit to its special outpatient department for the application in clinical settings involving lung cancer and pancreatic cancer.

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center started medical practice in June 2007.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD; ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease) is a chronic disease of unknown etiology that causes infl ammation and ulcer in intestinal mucosa,and is designated as a "specific disease" in Japan. In the last 20 years, the number of IBD patients has been rapidly increasing,and the number of patients tends to be higher particularly in metropolitan areas
such as Tokyo and Kanagawa. Considering such a current situation, YCU Medical
Center, as one of the few IBD specialty institutions in Japan, established IBD Center where a team consisting of internists and surgeons performs general diagnosis and medical practice.
