Yokohama Entrepreneurial Development, Interdisciplinary Studies
Think, Act ? Globally, Locally
Course Summary/Features
The aim of this program is to provide students with an entrepreneurial outlook that will enable them to think synergetically, with a global and interdisciplinary perspective, about the various issues confronting Yokohama and other cities and regions around the world. Global community relationships: This course approaches global social issues from a new perspective consisting of cross-border urban and regional relationships, a more flexible approach than the traditional international relationship. Yokohama Initiative:</ strong> Our belief is that studying in Yokohama, a global urban center, and conducting research on Yokohama will elicit contributions to global society. Integrated community strategies: While placing importance on respective fields of study, we approach urban and community issues that cannot be covered completely in specialized fields of study in a synthetic, integrated fashion. Emphasis on field work:</ strong> By getting off campus and in actual contact with the community and the real world, the goal is to hone critical thinking and problem-solving by formulating community strategies. Emphasis on practical applications: Emphasis is placed on training and tools that can be practically implemented: on-campus startup simulations, geographical information systems, urban design, acquisition of ISO (environmental, quality) standards.
Main Research/Study Areas
While placing importance on studying existing disciplines such as geography, management, sociology, economics, political science and international relations, we take an integrated, synthetic approach to exploring internal and external urban and community issues.
Basic Course Models
Global Community Strategies
We look into urban and community issues of the global society from a new perspective known as global community relations. Elucidating the dynamism of community industrial and residential zones through on- and off-campus field studies and practical education, we conduct studies of systems and policies to resolve issues confronting cities and communities.
Urban Governance and Community Development
We delve into new methods of urban governance involving a variety of players, including civic forces such as volunteers or NPOs and NGOs, government, and the private sector. Studies related to urban and community issues such as the urban environment, community welfare, and multicultural coexistence involve community development simulations, education and other on-site experiences.
Industrial Parks and Startup Strategies
We explore conditions at domestic and overseas industrial zones and the mechanisms behind creating new industries. Practical studies of socioeconomic environments that allows for non-risk, entrepreneurial management involve internships and on-campus startup simulations so that students can experiment with starting their own companies, instead of just learning theory.
