Common liberal arts coursework required for all students

Yokohama City University aims to foster human resources in demand by local community and international society. Our education programs designed under the concept of "21st Liberal Arts Education" provide students with the opportunity to acquire wisdom and skills that are essential to survive in the real world. The core curriculum is liberal arts coursework provided on Kanazawa Hakkei campus. This curriculum is a requirement for all first-year students in the International College of Arts & Sciences and School of Medicine. Especially, Training Seminar A during the first semester of freshman year is composed of students from all department and majors, under the guidance of two instructors specializing in Science and Liberal Arts respectively.

3 categories of liberal arts core curriculum
Liberal arts core curriculum subjects are broadly divided into three course clusters: "Raising Problems" cluster is to extend studentsfawareness antennae; "Skills Acquisition" cluster is necessary to resolveproblems; "Linkage with Specialization"cluster is to organically link liberal arts and specialized studies. Each curriculum is designed for all students to acquire knowledge that is linked
to self-discovery and individual identity.
