Course goalsThis is a creative writing workshop course for students interested in reading and writing stories in English. Students will read and write fiction in English in this course. Examples of short stories from around the world will be read and discussed, and students will create stories and share their stories during class workshops. Students new to creative writing are encouraged to join this class.
Course outlineExamples of short stories from around the world will be read and discussed in student-led literature circles. Students will gain an understanding of the elements of fiction and will acquire the vocabulary necessary for competent academic discussions of literature.\n\nStudents will then create their own short stories and will learn how to develop plot, setting, characters and dialogue. They will share their short stories with classmates during class writing workshops and receive helpful feedback from each other. Finally they will revise their stories for a final portfolio.\n\nStudents new to creative writing are encouraged to join this class.
Evaluation Scale and PoliciesGrades will be based on participation, homework and a final portfolio.
