It is the policy of Yokohama City University to welcome all applicants and not to discriminate against on the basis of race, national origin and religion.

However as almost all teaching in the university is conducted in Japanese and all the brochures and application forms are written in Japanese, all the applicants are expected to be proficient in Japanese.

Graduate School of Urban Social and Cultural Studies

Master’s Program

This program admits talented individuals who share the philosophy of the Graduate School of Urban Social and Cultural Studies, possess broad perspectives and the flexibility to accommodate multidisciplinary education and research, and have the ability and drive to create a master’s thesis based on clear awareness of issues.

Doctoral Program

This program admits talented individuals who share the philosophy of the Graduate School of Urban Social and Cultural Studies, possess broad perspectives and the flexibility to accommodate multidisciplinary education and research, and have the advanced research ability and drive to create a doctoral thesis based on clear awareness of issues.

Graduate School of International Management

Master’s Program

Capable individuals are admitted who share the philosophy of the Graduate School of International Management; have the ambition to enthusiastically tackle from a global perspective various issues that actually rise in economic society through the application of research methods and knowledge in management, accounting, economics, and law; and possess the ability to complete a master’s thesis based on clear awareness of issues.

Doctoral Program

Capable individuals are admitted who share the philosophy of the Graduate School of International Management; have the ambition to enthusiastically tackle from a global perspective various issues that actually rise in economic society through the application of the latest research methods and extensive knowledge in management, accounting, economics, and law; and possess the ability to complete a doctoral thesis based on clear awareness of issues.

Graduate School of Nanobioscience

Master’s Program

The master’s program seeks energetic persons who understand the philosophy of nanobioscience, recognize natural phenomena through laws of nature founded on materials, and take the initiative to attempt to make new discoveries. Talented individuals are accepted who possess an attitude that contributes to the resolution of social issues based on scientific outcomes.

Doctoral Program

The doctoral program seeks persons who understand the philosophy of nanobioscience and comprehensively explore natural systems on an expert level based on perspectives founded on materials. The program also expects such persons to actively promote their acquired research outcomes in society, and furthermore, accepts individuals with the drive to search far and wide for opportunities to be active in the world.

Graduate School of Medical Life Science

The Graduate School of Medical Life Science carries out education aimed toward the application and development of matters, such as the elucidation of basic principles of life and efficient drug discovery founded on basic principles, which are built upon structural biology that clarifies at the atomic level life principles based on matter and the structure/functions of biomolecules. Based on the knowledge and experience gained in the graduate school, talented individuals are cultivated that are capable of applying what they learn in various fields in society. To accomplish this, the graduate school seeks out students who possess an interest in life science and materials science, make the most of their undergraduate study background, and are highly motivated to tackle the application and development of issues including the understanding of life phenomena and efficient drug discovery.

Graduate School of Medicine

The Graduate School of Medicine seeks individuals who
 possess a strong sense of ethics,
 explore truths through creative approaches,
 are highly inquisitive about medical science,
 and are motivated to contribute to the advancement of society.

Department of Nursing

The Department of Nursing fosters capable individuals who possess advanced practical nursing skills.
To achieve this, the department seeks students who
1. possess a rich humanity and a strong sense of ethics,
2. are highly independent and love learning,
3. and have a clear intent to study and research issues that arise in nursing settings.
